Jaimie joined Mendes as a summer associate in 2009 and has spent her career litigating complex disputes in the Litigation Department. Her practice has focused on complex coverage litigation on behalf of domestic and international insurance companies and on providing analyses of insurance-related issues. Jaimie has experience in all phases of complex litigation, including initial pleadings, discovery and motion practice, through trial and appeal. Jaimie also has experience negotiating favorable settlements in multi-million dollar matters and has represented clients in mediations and other alternative dispute resolution forums.
Jaimie works closely on a daily basis with our clients to assist in the assessment of complex, multi-faceted coverage issues. Jaimie has successfully briefed and argued numerous complex coverage issues in jurisdictions across the country, obtaining favorable rulings on discovery motions, motions to dismiss, and motions for summary judgment. Among the many matters in which Jaimie was involved and/or took the lead on preparing varying motion practice that resulted in favorable outcomes for our clients are Consolidated Edison Com. of N.Y. v. The Continental Ins. Co. and Am. Home Assur. Co., (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2020); Travelers Prop. Cas. Co. of Am., et al. v. ICCO Cheese Company, Inc., and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2019); Hopeman Bros. Inc. v. Con’t Cas. Co. (E.D. Va. 2018); and ExxonMobil Corp. v. Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s, London, et al. (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2014).
Among her work litigating matters involving asbestos, environmental, and property claims, Jaimie also deals regularly with matters involving New York Insurance Law § 3420. Jaimie regularly represents clients who look to her for guidance on all aspects of the statute, including notice and disclaimer requirements as well as litigation involving individual claimants seeking insurance coverage. Jaimie has been involved in briefing and arguing many issues including those of first impression in numerous New York Insurance Law § 3420 cases and routinely assists our clients in addressing these matters from inception to resolution.
Having had the opportunity to spend four months in 2016 on secondment to one of our U.K.-based insurer clients, Jaimie has a unique and intimate understanding of the insurance industry from not only a legal perspective, but from a business and practical perspective as well.
Jaimie received her B.A., magna cum laude, in Philosophy, Politics & Law as well as English, General Language and Literature from Binghamton University and holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where she served on the Editorial Board of Fordham’s Dispute Resolution Society and was a staff member of the Fordham Environmental Law Review. Jaimie is a member of the American Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Litigation Section.
