Alexander Mueller, Non-Equity Partner

Mendes is one of the largest firms in the country entirely devoted to the practice of insurance law.

Since joining Mendes in 2005, Alex has defended Lloyd's Underwriters, London Market Companies and various European and domestic insurers in asbestos, pollution and health hazard coverage matters.  Alex's experience includes the trial defense of London Market Companies in an asbestos declaratory judgment action.  Alex has litigated on behalf of London Market Companies in bankruptcy proceedings involving asbestos personal injury claims.  Alex has also counseled insurers in negotiating and implementing settlement agreements, including coverage-in-place agreements and policy commutation agreements.

Alex's prior experience includes defending general contractors and building owners in litigation involving negligence claims and claims under the strict liability provisions of the New York State Labor Law.  He has obtained dismissals through summary judgment of a number of personal injury matters, including claims that would have potentially resulted in multi-million dollar verdicts.

Alex was a member of the Law Review at St. John's University School of Law.  He is the author of Nelson v. Saudi Arabia and the Need for a Human Rights Exception to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act that was published in the New York International Law Review in 2000.  Prior to entering law school, Alex was a paid staff member on local and national political campaigns.
